The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
